This is thanks to its pristine beaches, and beautiful waters, among other things that we will mention shortly.

I really enjoyed my stay on the island due to a number of reasons, including the following;

1. Pristine Beaches

Marco Island boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, complete with immaculately white sand.

This is hardly a surprise, as most Florida party beaches are known to be absolutely splendid! Due to the warm tropical weather, you are promised an unforgettable experience.

Some of the beaches that I would highly recommend you visit include:

  • Tigertail Beach: It is the most popular beach on the island. The beach is perfect for swimming and shelling due to its expansive shoreline and shallow lagoon.
  • South Marco Beach: If you are looking for serenity and tranquility, South Marco Beach is just the place. The beach is usually not crowded and is heavily endowed with natural beauty. As such, it will give you the atmosphere to relax and meditate. Moreover, you will catch beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Resident’s Beach: If you crave an intimate and secluded beach experience, Resident’s Beach will provide that for you. This is because the beach is not open to the public but reserved for Marco Island residents and visitors in specific accommodations.

It is advisable to wear your sunscreen when you go out to the beaches as the sun can be scorching during the day, hitting temperatures of 70 to 80 Fahrenheit.

2. A Variety of Outdoor Activities

At Marco Island, you will never run out of outdoor activities to engage in.

You can take part in water activities or sports such as:

You can also opt to go golfing at one of the world-class golf courses available on the island. Alternatively, you can stroll along the beach, pick exotic shells, and keep them as souvenirs.

3. The Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge

Established in 1996, the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge provides tourists with the opportunity to see wild animals in their natural habitat.

You will come across many species of rare and endangered plants and animals as you take a tour of the Wildlife Refuge.

Furthermore, you can camp and hunt here to make your experience all the more memorable.

4. Angling

Probably one of the best things I enjoyed while on Marco Island was the fishing expeditions.

Since the beach is sandwiched between the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Ten Thousand Islands to the east, there are plenty of fishing opportunities, both inshore and offshore, any time of the year.

Types of fish you will catch here include:

  • Tarpon
  • Grouper
  • Snapper

5. Marco Island Historical Museum

If you are a history buff, you should definitely make time and learn the history of Marco Island at this museum.

The museum mostly focuses on the history of the Calusa Indian civilization, which spun through several decades. You will see artifacts and photos that will help create imagery of said history.

6. Watching Dolphins

Dolphins are undoubtedly among the most adorable of water animals, and Marco Island is home to a lot of them, specifically bottlenose dolphins.

You can go on a guided dolphin-watching tour, where the guides will take you to some of the best viewing spots.

7. An Amazing Sunset Cruise

Marco Island has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. I was lucky enough to take a sunset cruise in the evening with my partner.

This was honestly one of the most romantic things I have ever experienced in my life. The cruise, which normally takes 2 hours, is something akin to a spiritual experience.

8. Delicious Cuisines

Probably one of the best things to do when on vacation is to experience the local food.

Marco Island has a vibrant food culture. As such, you will get the opportunity to enjoy great meals, especially seafood.

Some of the best restaurants that I got to visit include

  • Da Vinci’s
  • CJ’s
  • Marco Prime Steak & Seafood

9. It is Easily Accessible

How you access Marco Island largely depends on where you are coming from. For example, the island is 47.8 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). This is only less than an hour’s drive to reach the island, which is quite convenient.

However, if you are coming from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the trip will take about 1 hour and 50 minutes without traffic.

On the other hand, if you are coming from Miami, use US-41. This route will lead to San Marco Road. If you have time, you can use this road to reach Goodland, a great fishing village.

Is It Expensive to Go to Marco Island?

Marco Island is essentially a paradise on earth, and as such, it is not the cheapest place to visit. In a day, you may spend anywhere between $250 and $310.

If you plan to stay for a week, you should budget for $2139 for a solo traveler or $3978 for a couple. On the other hand, if you are traveling as a family of not more than 4, set aside about $7109 for a whole week.

Note that these costs encompass transport, food, and accommodation. Therefore, you should make proper financial plans before touring Marco Island.

Is Marco Island Better Than Naples, Florida?

Naples is only a stone’s throw away from Marco Island. It is safe to say that both islands are great; it depends on what you are looking for in your vacation.

Both islands have beautiful beaches, are home to bottlenose dolphins, and offer a variety of outdoor activities.

The main difference between the two islands is that Marco Island provides a more laid-back atmosphere, while Naples is more upscale and bustling.

One thing that Naples has over Marco is that the former has more beaches and a better shopping experience. Still, each is unique and has something

Final Words

Marco Island is definitely worth visiting. It has something for everyone, including divers, anglers, history buffs, and spiritual people who like to meditate and connect with nature.

Furthermore, it has some of the most pristine beaches and is easily accessible from the airport. Book your flight today and have the most amazing time of your life on Marco Island.
