Fiji is a captivating vacation destination with beautiful beaches, picturesque landscapes, and luxurious accommodations.
Staying in an overwater bungalow was such a magical experience, and I couldn’t wait to share the intricate details of my latest tour of Fiji.
Fiji has three gorgeous overwater villas that give resorts in Bora Bora and Maldives a run for their money.
Here’s everything that you need to know about the Best Overwater Bungalows in Fiji.
1. Likuliku Lagoon Resorts
Best Features:

- Proximity and available tours to Mociu, the Honeymoon Island
The 5-star resort is home to Fiji’s first overwater bungalows on the calm waters (Likuliku) of Malolo Island. Ten adults-only villas offer a luxurious ambiance with a spacious interior featuring minimalist Fijian décor, a comfy bed, and an opulent bathroom.
I loved that I got a chance to sip my morning coffee on the private furnished deck, watching the waves.
The dining options are exemplary; fresh seafood comes in every morning, and the diverse selection of cuisines makes use of locally sourced ingredients for a rich, unique flavor.
There is a bar called Masima that serves the best cocktails in the resort on the backdrop of scenic tropical surroundings.
The evenings at there are also electric, with an open-air bar regularly hosting local cultural dances and live music.

This resort is also great due to the tons of water activities you can participate. I really enjoyed scuba diving and snorkeling alongside humpback whales, barracuda, manta rays, reef sharks, and dolphins.
Our guided scuba tour also took us to a sunken World War II B-26 American bomber, where we found schools of marlin and moray eels swimming in the wreckage.
While at the resort, you can also opt to go on a forest walk, where you can spot the critically endangered Fijian Crested Iguana.
Film enthusiasts can also visit Monuriki Island, where Tom Hanks’s Castaway movie was shot.
Lastly, after the outdoor excursions, always schedule a session at their state-of-the-art spa for phenomenal relaxation remedies.
2. Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay

The Fiji Marriot Resort Momi Bay is located on Fiji’s largest island, Viti Levu, offering many serene, luxurious, and romantic accommodations.
The 22 overwater bungalows feature plush interiors with deluxe beddings, high vaulted ceilings to maximize natural light, and spacious bathrooms with soaking tubs and a separate shower.
The private patio ushers you into the lagoon’s turquoise waters via a flight of wooden stairs.
Deck loungers provide a conducive spot to relax or sunbathe while taking in the tropical breezes and the panoramic ocean views.
You can also begin most water excursions from this deck, from kayaking and scuba diving to jet skiing and parasailing.

The resort also has several bars that offer remarkable services. They include:
- Lagoon House & Bar- It is the most popular restaurant and offers amazing Mediterranean cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, and a swim-up bar.
- Goji Kitchen & Bar- This one is great if you want to go all in on a night-themed romantic dinner. I really loved the ambiance and the live cooking stations.
- Voi Voi Bar- In my opinion, this bar serves the best cocktails.
3. Koro Sun Resort
Best Features:

- Underwater weddings
- Free bike rentals
Nestled on the remote island of Vanua Levu in Savusavu, Koro Sun Resort is surrounded by tropical vegetation and beautiful lagoons providing a serene hideaway for couples.
The overwater bungalows are complete with air conditioning and a small glass panel for watching the buzzing marine life underneath your villa.
If you’re adventurous, you must try the following:
- Joining a guided jungle hike
- Mountain biking on the scenic Hibiscus coastal road
- Kayak up the Salt River to explore the saltwater caves
Our favorite was the hike to the incredible Vuodomo Waterfalls, where we picked up some herbs along the trail that natives use to make natural medicinal remedies.
Ensure to carry your binoculars to spot the variety of endemic birds, such as the rare orange-breasted dove in the lush rainforest.

There are also plenty of activities you can participate in within the resort, including:
- Golfing at their 9-hole adventure golf course

- Learning the art of flower arrangement

While Koro Sun Resort may not be as opulent as Likuliku and Fiji Marriot, it is moderately priced and an ideal destination if you are on a budget.
Also, it has more complimentary excursions and easy accessibility by either air or road, significantly reducing your transport and overhead costs.
Common Features of Overwater Bungalows in Fiji
Most of the above-listed overwater bungalows have some common features.
1. Located in Natural Sanctuaries
All the overwater bungalows sit on lush natural sanctuaries, with Kora Resort sitting on the biggest of them all, a whopping 160 acres.
A lot of local effort goes into conserving these habitats, so be mindful of disrupting the natural balance of things. You can also leave a donation to help carry on the work.
2. Phenomenal Staff
One of the standout features of all these resorts was the incredible service.
The staff members learn your name pretty fast, and despite the cultural gap, they are warm and kind while maintaining the highest degree of professionalism. We were overwhelmed by their hospitality.
3. Adults Only
Most of these resorts are not meant for a family vacation. Instead, their settings allow for an intimate romantic excursion.
4. Smoke–free Resorts
Unlike many establishments with designated smoking areas or rooms, smoking is strictly prohibited in these three Fijian overwater resorts.
5. Alcohol Prices are More Expensive
Most of the alcohol sold in Fiji is imported and is subject to heavy taxation, which drives the prices. Expect to pay a little more for your favorite drinks when visiting a bar.
6. Surcharge on Credit Card Transactions
Pay in cash where possible since most credit card transactions, including ATM withdrawals, attract a 3-5% surcharge.
When you land at Nadi International Airport, exchange some U.S. dollars for Fijian Dollars (FJ$) as the rates are better.
Consequently, you will easily get around on public transport and buy merchandise from local stores.

Our visit to Fiji was fantastic all around. We loved the accommodation options, the large variety of excursions, the incredible hospitality, and the warmth of the locals.
